Many of us mothers can have a difficult time during the postpartum period with so many changes. Our bodies dramatically change, and we now have these sweet but very dependent babies that need us around the clock. With our bodies, many of us—myself included—have body image concerns post-pregnancy. Even though we appreciate everything our bodies have done for us and our babies, it can be not easy to look at ourselves in the mirror. We don’t recognize that person or body anymore. And with a new baby, finding the time to take care of ourselves can also be challenging. It’s a big transition.
Today, Dr. Susan Albers is chatting with us about mindful eating, what it is, and how it can help us in the fourth trimester. Dr. Albers is a New York Times best-selling author and a clinical psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic. She specializes in eating issues, weight loss, body image concerns, and mindfulness. After obtaining her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Denver, Dr. Albers completed an APA internship at the University of Notre Dame and a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University.
Dr. Albers conducts mindful eating workshops across the country and is the author of six mindful eating books, including her latest, Hanger Management: Master Your Hunger and Improve Your Mood, Mind, and Relationships, which was released on December 24th.
In today’s podcast episode, Dr. Albers shares five tips on mindful eating during postpartum that can help our minds and heal our bodies.
