Editorial Policy
Our mission is to inform and empower you with accurate, empathetic, and inclusive information—so you can make the best choices for yourself and your growing family. Content integrity is core to everything we do. That’s why we’re transparent about how we create, review, and publish content that guides your pregnancy and parenting journey.

Our Editorial Standards
We strive for all content to be as accurate as possible. In reporting and researching articles, writers vet their sources for competing interests and seek out studies from third-party sources. If there is a conflict of interest, we disclose it. Similarly, if the only research we can find on a topic involves a very small sample size or stipulation, we clearly state this within the article.
Baby Chick declines to accept advertising or article copy if it is aware that it is misleading, inaccurate or fraudulent or makes unfair competitive claims. In addition, we may decline an advertisement or article copy because of the applicability of laws dealing with such matters as libel, copyright and trademark, is indecent, vulgar, suggestive, profane, or offensive.
It is important to us that we provide fair and accurate content without spreading fear. We strive to earn and maintain your trust.
What are some other ways we do this?
- We continually update our content as we learn new information.
- Writers fact-check articles before they submit them.
- Our editors also fact-check their submissions before publishing.
- When fact-checking, our team uses primary references like peer-reviewed journals, government and advocacy organizations, and academic sources to ensure the facts are relevant and backed up by timely, trusted data.
- We provide training to keep editors aware of best practices for reporting, writing, and updating content.
- We do not charge for editorial coverage. That falls under sponsored content, which is clearly labeled on each article. (More on that below.)
- If an article is opinion based, we designate the article as “opinion,” located under the title.
Verify Sourcing and Citations
Our editors verify our content’s facts, claims, statistics, and recommendations by reviewing research journals, government websites, academic sources, and medical organizations. When we are sure of the accuracy of the statement or data, we’ll include a link to the information or cite it in the article. You can then see where it comes from and view the source. If you feel like any of the information that you read on our site is inaccurate, please contact us here to let us know so that our team can review it.
Diverse Voices
We aim to bring fact-based information to everyone regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, culture, and ability. We’re dedicated to creating content that reflects a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We don’t shy away from addressing disparities among different populations, and we know that one person’s experience navigating their pregnancy and parenting journey can be vastly different than that of another person from a different group. We strive to reflect all experiences and backgrounds in our content.
Medical Experts / Specialists
While content is provided for educational purposes and never intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, we utilize experts on our site to help ensure medical content is factual and comes from the perspective of experts in their respective fields. A checkmark and professional title will designate expert writers under their names located on each article and author page.
If a non-expert writes medical content, it is our policy to have content reviewed by a relative expert to ensure the accuracy of any claims made. Physicians and other medical experts review content for medical accuracy, relevance, and timeliness. A medical expert will confirm that a piece of content is thorough and contains facts and guidelines that reflect the latest research. When the content meets these standards, they will sign off on it, and when we publish it on our site, you’ll see their name and “reviewed by” under the headline, so you know an expert in that field has approved it.
Experts on our site are people who have received respectable training and certification or license in their field. They will receive a checkmark and a clearly stated professional title. Such experts are doctors, nurses, therapists, lactation consultants, dieticians, nutritionists, sleep consultants, doulas, parent coaches, etc. You can view all medical experts/specialists who have contributed to the Baby Chick website here at our Meet the Experts page.
We Update Our Content
Pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting content are ever-changing, and content integrity is critical to us. That’s why we prioritize regularly reviewing and updating content to ensure that content is up-to-date, answers the questions people are asking, and meets the new higher standards.
Corrections Policy
At Baby Chick, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of accuracy and integrity in our published content. We understand that errors can occur despite our best efforts, and we take responsibility for correcting any factual or substantive inaccuracies promptly and transparently. This Corrections Policy outlines our approach to addressing and rectifying errors in our articles.
- Identifying Errors: We strive to ensure the accuracy of our content through meticulous research, fact-checking, and editorial review processes. However, if an error is discovered or brought to our attention, we will promptly investigate and verify the information.
- Types of Errors: We recognize two primary categories of errors: minor and substantive.
- Minor Errors: These are typographical errors, grammatical mistakes, or other minor inaccuracies that do not significantly impact the overall understanding of the article’s content. Minor errors may be corrected without issuing a formal correction notice.
- Substantive Errors: These are factual errors, misinterpretations, misleading information, or significant omissions that materially affect the understanding or interpretation of the article’s content. Substantive errors may have a formal correction notice or may be corrected without issuing a formal correction notice.
- Correction Process: When a substantive error is identified, we will take the following steps to address it:
- Evaluation: Our editorial team will carefully assess the error to determine its significance, potential impact, and appropriate course of action.
- Correction Notice: A correction notice will clearly state the nature of the error, provide the accurate information, and include a timestamp indicating when the correction was made.
- Article Update: The article itself will be updated to reflect the corrected information.
- Reader Feedback: We encourage our readers to bring errors to our attention promptly. If you believe you have identified an error, please notify us through our designated channels, such as a dedicated corrections email address or a feedback form on our website. We appreciate and value reader feedback in maintaining the accuracy of our content.
- Editorial Integrity: We are committed to maintaining editorial independence and transparency in our corrections process. We will correct errors regardless of their impact on specific individuals, organizations, or entities. Corrections are not influenced by external pressures, and our corrections policy is applied consistently across all articles.
- Learning and Improvement: We view each correction as an opportunity to learn and improve our editorial processes. We will analyze the cause of errors, review our fact-checking procedures, and implement measures to minimize the occurrence of similar errors in the future.
By adhering to this Corrections Policy, we strive to provide our readers with accurate and reliable information. We are dedicated to ensuring transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in our pursuit of journalistic excellence.
Our Affiliate Content and How We Choose Products
At Baby Chick, we take product recommendations seriously. As professionals in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting—and as real moms ourselves—we carefully select and review every item featured in our articles. We believe parents deserve trustworthy, experience-backed recommendations, so we only highlight products we would personally use for our own families.
How Baby Chick Editors Research and Test Products
Our selection process is based on firsthand experience, professional expertise, and thorough research. Nina Spears, founder of Baby Chick, has personally tested thousands of products over her career and has assisted over 700 families through pregnancy, birth, and early childhood. As a baby planner, pregnancy and postpartum coach, birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, newborn educator, and mother, she either selects the products herself or oversees the final decision before they are included in our articles.
We never accept payment in exchange for product placements—our recommendations are independent and based solely on what we believe is best for parents and children.
What Criteria Do We Consider?
Every product we feature is evaluated based on:
- Safety – Does it meet or exceed safety standards? Is it free from harmful materials?
- Effectiveness – Does it perform well for its intended use?
- Ease of Use – Is it practical and user-friendly for parents and caregivers?
- Durability – Is it well-made and built to last?
- Parent-Friendliness – Does it make life easier for families?
Who Is Involved in Product Selection?
- Nina Spears – Baby planner, pregnancy and postpartum coach, birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, newborn educator, infant massage instructor, and mom.
- Lactation consultants and pediatric professionals – Who provide expert insight into baby and postpartum products.
- Real parents – We listen to parent feedback and real-life experiences to ensure our picks truly work for families.
At Baby Chick, our goal is to help parents make informed decisions with confidence. We carefully research, test, and curate product recommendations with the highest standards because we know that what you choose for your baby matters.
Our Sponsored Content
Baby Chick has a strict policy never to allow “pay for play” for editorial coverage. In other words, our editorial recommendations are never paid for by brands.
However, we work with advertising partners to create custom, sponsored content that we believe our readers will enjoy and utilize. This content is always clearly identified as “sponsored.”
Before advertising, Baby Chick tests and approves products or services before agreeing to create custom content and promote it to our audience. Authenticity is everything to us, and we will only work with brands and products we believe in and recommend.
